It is common knowledge that doors and doorways are places of transition.
A door can be opened and permit someone to enter a room or your home.
A doorway is used to move from one area to another or to the outside.
A closed door hides that which is within and then becomes a boundary to those
without. When a door is locked or bolted shut it becomes a symbol of
exclusion. The aspect of a closed door is something most people find
distressing and reprehensible.
The biblical writers under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit used the symbol of a door to great advantage in order to teach spiritual truth. In Revelation 3:20 the Lord Jesus Christ is pictured as standing outside a closed door and He is knocking. What is the spiritual truth in this picture? Jesus Christ is knocking at the door of the human heart and He is seeking to gain entrance so that an individual might enjoy fellowship with God's Son. The greatest decision any individual could make does not concern their bank account, their future retirement, or their health and welfare. The greatest spiritual truth concerns the need for an individual to make a decision concerning God's only begotten Son. To accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, or to exclude Him from your life. The prayer and desire of the people of Calvary Baptist Church is that almighty God would open a door to us to tell people about the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel that God gave to mankind for the salvation of their souls. God desires that every individual enjoy everlasting peace with Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. This gospel [the good news!] will make an eternal difference in the heart and life of every individual who accepts and believes in it. How is it with you dear friend? You've made all kinds of decisions in your life, what about a decision concerning God's Son Jesus Christ. Jesus died for you, was buried for you, He rose from the dead for you. If you've never made a decision to accept Him into your heart and claim Him as your Saviour, why haven't you? What's preventing you from making the most important decision any person can make in life. "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him..." (Revelation 3:20). Pastor Timothy P. Schieber |
